I'm glad the DWR is putting poaching in the news a lot now. Hopefully whoever did this is caught and punished adequately. I don't understand idiots who do this, what a waste.

Did you personally know any of the poached deer?
Odd are it was a thrill killing since none of the meat or antlers were taken by whoever shot them.

In my book these people that just shot them are actually worse than those that shoot a animal and then take the meat. But not by much.

Been going on in Sanpete County for Decades> Hope they catch these Scum Bags.
I will bet ya money some of the locals know whos been pulling the trigger on these deer.
Sanpete is the poaching capital of Utah. I wouldn't be surprised if the farmer shot the does. The bucks were shot and the people probably got nervous and left. Like Old Fudd Said been happening for years. It's sad too because in the 90's some high school kids killed 38 deer using 22's and all that happened was a small fine, nothing else because they were kids being dumb.
Rumor has it that back in the 70's and 80's a poaching club in Mt Pleasant. performed by students from an Academy along with locals had a 2 week contest to see who could poach more deer and elk. Who ever killed the most got some kinda podunk prize. My family who have all passed away lived in Spring City and ran a little cafe in Mt Pleasant,, killing fields were usually the talk around a cup of coffee and the best home made Pies in the county.

Luckily although we still have problems, I believe the consequences of poaching scare a lot of people. I wish they were harsher though.
I lived down in Moroni for a few years. This is common. I've heard "this is Sanpete we do things different down here" so much that I think its the county motto. Often times through the grapevine I'd hear that the DWR officer didn't want to press charges against someone because it was their friends kids doing the damage. I've personally called in poachings and the local officer always took hours to show up but if he wasn't around and someone from another area was on duty they would meet me within an hour. I hope they catch these guy and punish them severely.
