Just a reminder that just because you can ride somewhere, doesn't mean you have to. Please, especially watch the kids-- there's no need for them to drive around and around the mountain all day "looking" for deer. It's obnoxious. Especially your fat kids. I had to help a 300 lb 6th-grader last year because he bogged his machine down and looked like he was going to cry. That's irony.

Before you flame me... take a look at http://www.iwla.org/publications/wilderness/OHVreport.pdf it's a nice piece of work by the Isak Walton league. Not some tree hugging outfit.

- (I know the fat kid comment is sort of mean, but you should have seen this kid, it was like Shamu got stuck on a four-wheeler).

Do not missintrepret what I say. Trooper as a very good point and I agree with him. But the past two years I have spent the majority of the deer hunt hunting in an area where the only vehicle access is by ATV by means of designated ATV trails. I estimate that between using my ATV for access and actually "road hunting" from the ATV, I spent about 50% of the time on the ATV and 50% walking. (I am not as young as I used to be.) I honestly think that I saw more deer from the ATV than I did walking. It seems to me that the ATVs do not bother the game as much as some might think. That is unless you are actually using ATVs to chase anamals around which is blatantly illegal. It is also important to keep the ATVs on the desingated trails and roads. If we don't we will loose the priveledge of ridding them for recreation and hunting.

I agree. If riders are going somewhere, fine. But having the whole camp take turns riding all over the mountain just for fun is indeed very annoying. Go camping in the summer for that. Just my opinion...
On the other hand. This is America -- and if you're in an area that it's legal to ride, well...as Trooper alluded to, it's about being considerate.

Once again, I am not ragging on Karma whos post apeared while I was posting mine and I am not the worlds fastest typest. I remember when I was younger that the only poeple in the moutains durrinig hunting season were hunters. This is not the case any more. There are many other recreatiionsts sharring the fall with us. Recreational ATVrs, hickers, Bikers and campers all have just a much right to enjoy the mountains as we hunters. We have to respect their rights to be there and persue their chosen recreation as we claim the rights to hunt.

I've got my alchohol burning yamaha banshee all tricked out for this weekend! I figure if I start racing up the roads sometime tomorow afternoon, I can spook all the deer farther than 60 yards into the trees- then by sunday afternoon all the yeah-hoos will be gone and I can cool off the bike and start to hunt! Its either that or pull out my silenced 22 hand gun and start putting bleeder holes in all the jerk-offs who think they need to blaze trails through every little opening they can!
On a serious note I hope to role out of my sleeping bag next to my beautiful wife -point out the buck that will be feeding 300 yards away that we watched the night before and have her blast it, then get my freak on, if ya know what I mean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What could be better?

Solution??? Walk more than 60yds into the trees!!!!!! They won't bother you then.
I am going to respectfully disagree; those who never get off of the ATV do not realize how stinking loud they are; the noise carries well over 1/2 mile. Case in point, on the muzzy hunt, my buddy kept wanting to stay on his ATV, I convinced him to walk, in doing so he realized and told me that he had not realized just how loud they are. Not a big deal, but it is awfully odd how some people do all hunting from them; free to do what you want, just wierd. I have second thoughts about buying one now based on what I see of others.

None of that is a big deal; but the fellars who blaze new trails in prohibited areas need some sort of tune up on their machines, rocky mtn style or something like that. I saw on the old DWR forum where a guy complained of someone ripping his up when he was on a legal trail; I find that hard to believe, not that I condone vandalism, but I would guess that it makes him think twice next time.

+1, I can afford wheelers, but choose not because of similar reasons. That and I would be more prone to being lazy. It's a personal choice and I have no qualms with people using them responsibly. It's those **** rifle hunters and their mullets I have a beef with.

What???!!! I saw a nice skullet last night; I about fell over laughing! What's wrong with some humor in life? Tell me that you can look at this pic and hold a straight face: http://www.jurassicmark.lastminuteliving.com/.

Why does every issue always end up having mulletts as the core of the problem? Maybe the issue is bigger than I thought; maybe if we used Gulianni's crime idea where we attack the heart of the problem we can really get rid of the world's ailments! If mullets were to be banned, I would guess that ATV's would stay on the trails, meth use would decline significantly, however unemployment would likely rise immensely with no one buying the wife beaters, many tailors would be out of work (of course, the fellar in the pic only uses the wife beater to wipe off the top of his beer can; with a 110;b body like that I am sure that it is hard to keep it covered up). Once I get that issue resolved world peace is very possible, maybe tailors would have more work as shirts would actually have at least short sleeves keeping unemployment down.

Your points are very valid. I have been pondering the validity of such theories for some time. I also believe rotweilers as a breed would completely disappear as well. Kind of like the dodo.
