I am wondering where some good places to look for antlers are and what is the best time of year to find them laying around. I understand this might be a hush hush type of thing given the price i see antlers go for. The reason I ask is I am a moderately decent wood turner and make a lot of pens, seems like the past 3 years around hunting season I get a lot of requests for antler pens, knife handles, lamps, straight razor handles etc ... I have only turned a few antlers that I have purchased and blown them all up on my lathe so I am hoping to find some good places to go and find sheds so I can get more practice turning them. Any help would be great if you don't want to post locations publicly please PM me, I am willing to give away anything I actually make to those who can help me locate some antlers. Thanks

yeah I figured shed locations were pretty secretive, I have called a few butchers and processing places and they all said they would call me when they got some. One told me the DNR have an auction every year and sell them. Since I am just looking to practice with them I don't want to spend a lot of money purchasing them.

you will have to go directly to the butcher shops and hang around. i use to collect them my self. I would also ask people that hunt for the antlers if they do not want them some do not care. it is not an easy task to find them.
best bet is to put the word out before the hunt.
