I am getting set up to load .358 win. only have 2 bullet types at the moment and theyre probably on the big side. I have 250 gr speer hotcors and 225 gr barnes tsx.
I have rl15, h4895, n140 and n160. I am thinking rl15 and h4895 may be useful but I will probably buy some other powders.

I will probably end up buying some 200 gr barnes tsx and 225 gr sierra boat tails.

If anybody has any experience or input, I would appreciate it.

......but the .358 win is such a common and popular cartridge.
I should've taken Winchester's decision to stop producing .358 ammo into account when I bought the rifle (but they kept the .356 Winchester? !). I'll just stick with the manuals I guess

Here is the only text I could find in my nosler 7. It only applies to 225 grain spitzers, but it is the only info I have to share. Looks like h4895 would be ideal under slower charges.

Thanks Fishreaper. I'm gonna get my hands on some 225 gr partitions or sierras I think. I'll widen my powder selection too. I was just hoping I get some input from people who have loaded it before, because the manuals seem to have some slower loads. An article in handloader magazine had some significantly faster moving loads but I am hesitant to follow those loads without more input from other folks with experience loading this cartridge. I wont make it out this year to hunt but I was hoping to have some elk loads worked up and established by next year. Appreciate the info Fish

i love it. it's a bit light, but handy and quick pointing.
That's good to hear. If I had an extra thousand dollars or so I would like to buy a stainless steel takedown BLR chambered in .358 Winchester. My one hesitancy, other than cost, is that I tend to be a little bit recoil sensitive, and I'm not too proud to admit it.

Another coveted lever gun is a .45/70, ideally a model 1886 Winchester guide style gun, but again there is the cost and recoil.

I have a Savage model 99 in .308, a Rossie model 92 in .357 magnum, and a Henry lever action .22 LR. That is almost as many lever action guns as bolt action guns in my gunsafe, and I use the lever guns more often, so I guess I am partial toward lever guns.

I was surprised how much the little gun kicked. Even with "light" bullets at slower speeds it is a handful. My .35 whelen with heavier bullets at higher speeds is more comfortable to shoot. But the blr is much handier.
