Just got back from fishing/floating the Gunnison River in Colorado for 3 days. The Black Canyon is absolutely beautiful. We fished hard and it was tough getting strikes the whole trip. Thunderstorms the last couple weeks made some off colored water. We still managed a few beautiful fish, just not the quantity we were hoping for with as much time invested. The salmon fly hatch was just really getting going and the fish hadn't keyed in on big dry flies yet. Most fish were caught on caddis drys, caddis nymphs, pats rubber legs, and a half dozen or so on salmon fly patterns. Definitely a cool experience in a place I likely will not make it back to in many years.
Pics are out of order as usual for me.

Thanks for the great pictures and report.

It's been years since I fished there and the thing I most remember was how slippery the rocks are. The rocks were liked greased bowling balls. 😁
It's too bad the water was off colored or I'm sure you would have done better. We spent two days and dropped in on two different trails. The canyon is so beautiful that I missed several fish because I was too busy gawking around.

I haven't fished that water in quite a while. We used to just walk up from the access road on the west side and wade as far as we could. It was usually hot enough that we didn't even bother with waders, just shorts and tennis shoes. Was some great fishing, one year we actually fried a fish on a rock it was so hot.

A friend snagged a sucker in the tail once, we thought that he had the biggest brown that was alive. That fish would do 50 yard runs with line just screaming off of his reel. After about a hour he got it in to where we could see it, talk about disappointment, but it was a lot of fun while we thought that it was a brown.
