I took three of my grandkids and son-in-law to Mantua on Saturday. We started fishing at 8:30 AM and finished at 2:00 PM. For most of the day we were the only boat on the lake. For the first time in 40 years I could not start the 5.5 hp 1965 Evinrude. The pull cord would not retract after the 2nd pull. So we rowed out towards the "knoll" and anchored and fished with worms a couple of feet off the bottom. We caught a dozen perch and bluegill. The grandkids are learning to set the hook still so we missed quite a few. My grandson Ian did catch the biggest bluegill we have ever caught from Mantua. It was 9 inches long with very wide girth (see picture). Around 12:30 PM we rowed to shore and hiked up the steep not so little knoll. My son in law had to leave at 2:30 PM so at 2 PM so we rowed back and of course the wind which had stayed away all day was blowing and it was contrary. The grandkids had a great day fishing, hiking, throwing rocks and playing on the shore by the beach getting wet and dirty........... a good day.

My two ten year old grandkids and the 8 yr old "raced" to the top of the knoll and I must say I was winded on the way up and my legs hurt on the way down. I remember in the old days telling my father to move faster on these types of adventures when he was fifty something as I am now ......... so now I know how he was feeling.
