Boat... Bigger? Smaller?

Seems like my 1436 is way too small. I love being able to lift it over the dikes but a 1648 is looking nice. How heavy are they? Do they push through the shallow water? How big of a motor do you need?

I have a 1648 riveted Jon. I think it weighs around 290 pounds. I run a 27 hp longtail on it and it pushes and floats just fine in shallow water. I wouldn't run anything less than a 23 hp motor on it though.
I had a 1436 with a 9 hp longtail for a few years, but there's just not enough room in them to hunt 3 guys. They do work well though when you need to jump dikes. If you decide to get one I suggest one without a center bench. You may even look at a 1448 NCS.

What speeds are you seeing?

17.4 mph - 18.6 mph with 2 guys no gear, new prop
14.5 mph - 16.5 2 guys, dog and full of gear. A lot of it has to do with how you balance the load and the depth of the water. I run faster in shallower water than I do going down the main channels.

I have a 1648 riveted flat bottom Jon boat with a 23hp mayhem I'm looking to sell if your interested I put me and my 11 yr old my buddy and his boy with a dog and gear in it pushes just fine it has no center bench and plywood flooring so it's flat surface to walk on light bar and a heavy duty trailer the trailer is kinda ugly but it rides really nice I'm looking to get a mod v boat and a bigger mud motor. It has storage in the front and the back bench has storage.

If I got paid more than a struggling graduate student, id be all over that. I want a wide flat bottom with a mud motor so bad, I lose sleep at night
