so if I want to draw a great area for deer and have 10 points but it will require 11 to draw but if I put my second choice that only requires 6 will I lose all my points for a 6 point area?
In other words if I draw a second choice do I lose all my points?

I wouldn't worry about it since all the tags usually go in the first round.

Yes. You use your Limited Entry bonus points for whichever tag you draw. Preference points in the General Season draw are only used for the first choice.
