i'm not sure i'll have to look at it again but it has either japenese or chinese writing on the barrel and chamber and on the stock it has a carving of buck on one side and a cougar or something on the other i think i'm going to my grandma's house tomorrow so i'll take pictures

Could be a sporterized Arisaka rifle. They were a bolt action used by Japan in WWII based on a modified Mauser design. They came in either 6.5mm Jap (Type 38), or 7.7mm Jap (Type 99). Some were war trophies, others were sold as surplus in the '50s and '60s. Ones with a Chrysanthemum (flower) crest on top are a bit rarer. Norma made ammo for them.
