I am just getting into the elk hunting scene since last fall. My hunting this year was sabotaged by school. I want to do the open bull hunt next year with a bow. I had my eye on some areas next to Causey Resevoir. I have one of those maps that tell you where the public and private lands are and I think I found a decent area for hunting on foot.
Has anyone been up there looking for elk? Is it worth a long hard scouting trip during the rut or should I put my efforts on other open bull units?
I appreciate the sensitive info so you can send me an PM or email. I am looking for a hunting partner also. I usually go it alone but am always willing to go with someone who is willing to hike hard.
Yeah I am aware of the CWMU land. I have a GPS app that shows me what is public. Just wanted to know if the area holds animals or are they all on private property.
It doesn't take them long to figure out what's going on and run for the Deseret property.
You could find an elk in there though. I wouldn't rule it out entirely. As you probably know, access can be tough and getting an animal out without horses would really be tough but hey, hunting is hunting and I don't think there is such a thing as a bad one.
