Cow Elk Advice

923 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  3arabians
I am posting looking for advice on a cow elk hunt. My friend drew out in for the Wasatch Mtns East Heber unit, not realizing the majority of the areas where the cows winter are on private land. We have seen some bulls further up Hwy 40 in Daniels Canyon on some public but no cows. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to possibly find a cow on some public land, or private land that would allow access for a fee? We have snowmobiles if that would be helpful. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Here are the unit boundaries.

Post number 4 nails it on this 'east Heber' thread....

The cows are all down low right now. There are some big herds in hay fields right now about a 2-3 miles east of town. I am not sure who owns them, but they are out of city limits and you could shoot a cow out of the herd if you got permission from the owner of the fields they are in.

I think Goofy was referring to my post in the other thread. That has all good information and you will get a cow if you try the places I have stated in that thread. The one place should be pretty easy to shoot a cow in right now, might even be able to shoot one off the road.

Goofy was referring to post 4 he said. It was a MUCH less optimistic post then yours have been. :) If I had this tag I would be listening to you and you only if I wanted to fill my freezer. :EAT:
