We often hear about how the elk numbers are doing up around diamond fork and how there has been a decline in numbers. I'm wondering about the deer herd around that area. What is it like come the muzzleloader/rifle hunt? For those that hunted it this year, did you have success? How many bucks to does did you see?

My family has hunted deer in Diamond Fork for decades. This rifle season was better than any in the past 7-8 years, at least for us. I personally didn't find anything with antlers on it (I'm pretty sure I'm cursed when it comes to deer hunting), but several friends tagged out and we saw more deer this year than we had in quite awhile. Buck-to-doe ratios seemed to be low.

I also assume others were finding more deer there, because the number of road hunters passing through was off the charts.

The deer numbers on the south end of Wasatch west are improving.
I've been watching the rut and wintering deer all winter from the mouth
of SF canyon to Soldier summit........

I've seen better buck numbers AND better quality bucks this year than
I have in a long time!!!!

The elk on the other hand----Pretty much gone.

The increasing buck to doe ratio ---- Credit go's to opt 2.

The increasing overall deer herd size go's to mother nature......

Its debatable rather or not the elk herd numbers impact the deer.
I would say some areas more than others..
The area we are discussing in this thread, the deer probably were impacted by elk.
There were 1000's of elk 5-6 years ago------Now days, practically none.
