That has to be the dumbest thing you’ve ever said on here. And that’s saying somethingIt went against traditional wisdom but we've got evidence now that foot traffic can actually impact wildlife more than motorized traffic so I'm all for such closures.
Oh I’d love to see your “evidence”.Yeah, most don't realize how impactful it can be on wildlife during the winter and early spring.
I'm not really convinced the non-motorized community has accepted the evidence coming out of studies the last ten years. Being spooked and pushed around this time of year comes at a huge energetic cost during a season in which their food sources are less than ideal. And the evidence seems to show it's the fact foot traffic exists in a space/place for longer that is the biggest factor.
The Wasatch would be a perfect place for a long term study on the subject.
There’s quite few that are open to public access year round. They just limit the motorized access to certain monthsIs there some reason they can't? Most the ones I'm familiar with farther north all have seasonal closures for everybody.
Come on, be a big boy and don’t ignore me. You claim there’s evidence, we need to see itYeah, most don't realize how impactful it can be on wildlife during the winter and early spring.

What about when that car hits that deer and elk? Does that have more of an impact than a shed hunter walking around? 🙄 I’d wager that more deer and elk are killed every winter by vehicles than shed huntersReally Bux, you don't need a double blind study to answer affirmatively to that statement. You don't need some study, or scientific evidence all the time. ANYONE that has driven down a road knows full well through experience that people walking around disturb animals more than a car passing by, for example. Thousands of vehicles can drive by a herd of wintering deer next to a freeway with no impact, but just let one of those cars stop and walk over by the fence to take a look and bam, heads pop up, deer start to move away and eventually a level of panic will overtake he herd. You , as a hunter DO know this. So stop trying to justify shed hunting during this extremely hard winter. You know damnn well 20,000 shed hunters walking around in the hills this winter will cost many many deer and elk their lives.
This is not an arguable situation, the DWR is doing the right thing by closing shed hunting for a while.
Oh boo hooIt's quite the hilarious complaint on his part given I already provided a link to the scientific research. But it's obvious it's not about facts with his behavior.
The site has chosen not to moderate obvious trolling and an account (multiple) that violates their own community rules. This is what they get when they don't enforce their own bans.
You’re late to the party. But at least you showed upMoose is that you ?
Hiking in canyon lands? 🤣🤣 holy balls. Then there’s a whole pile of tourists annually that are in violation of federal code, according to your ‘facts’.Nope, but you aren't supposed to there anyways. It's against federal code.
The utah shed hunt is now slated to open on the opening day of the general turkey hunt for 2023.It's a big deal to those that really love to go out and look for sheds. It takes away something that people usually get to do each year and love doing it. I get it. I also get why they are saying we shouldn't do it for a while. Their job is to protect and manage wildlife, and this is something they can do to do just that.
I'm not going to get into the "why can you walk your dog but I can't pick up a shed" discussion for reasons I already mentioned above that the DWR is limited in what they can regulate. That said, it is entirely inconsistent for the DWR to have this shed closure in place while allowing people to head out on those other activities on lands the DWR can regulate access to. They should be closing those WMAs they control entirely if they are putting in a shed gathering closure. And also that the shed closure spans beyond the spring turkey hunts. Turkey hunters won't impact wildlife, but shed hunters will? And maybe they are trying to preserve the turkey hunts and not have everyone head out all at once during the hunts? But that does feel inconsistent to me.
(Full disclosure - I have never picked up a single shed in my life.)
