It always amazes me what you find when you are not looking for it. Me and a friend decided to run our dogs this morning to get ready for the fast approaching upland season. He remembered it was the archery deer opener so we decided to go out to the desert and look for sage grouse to chase in Sept. I forgot my camera so I figured something beautiful would happen and we would just have to talk about it.

After making sure we were the only ones in the area we let the dogs go and found a few birds, a ton of doves (I know where I will be for the opener) and as we talked we jumped a nice tall 23 inch, heavy horned 4 point buck that was less than 80 yards away. If someone would have watched this buck lay down last night they could have tagged him this morning. He was a great looking deer and I expect he will be real nice if he makes it through this year.

Every season I seem to find a nice animal I am trying to avoid as I look for birds.
