With the UCI cycling championship races taking place in downtown Richmond, VA all week long, the medical school closed for the week - I finally had the chance to spend a little time out at a local shooting range prepping for the upcoming muzzleloader hunt that starts in a month. Unfortunately, my prep was done in no time as the hammer on my CVA Optima would not stay back - couldn't even fire a shot, so I was definitely glad I had brought my X-Bolt .223 with me!

I hadn't shot this rifle in close to 18 months and I was pleased to see that it still shoots better than I can. My go to load (40 Gr. Nosler Varmageddon over a slightly compressed load of Benchmark) was outdone slightly by a 40 Gr. Hornady V-max with the same powder. Either way, I was definitely pleased to see I hadn't totally forgot how to shoot. To top it off, a guy shooting next to me gave me 80 pieces of once fired 30-06 cases as he left. Hopefully I can put them to good use in my grandfather's Springfield 1903 in the future.

That there is a BEAUTY! I have a gun that does that... makes me smile every time.

PS: Get a Mercury head dime for your target pictures, it increases your cred by 2x :D

That's what I call a boring gun. That's a good thing! It's so accurate that it just keeps stacking bullets on top of each other. Nice groups!!

Thanks gents! I do like working up loads in rifles, but it sure is fun to have one that seems to like just about anything you put down the tube!

I've got my 6.5 build that should be finished any day now - hoping to have similar results!
