When is the best time of season to visit Hardware Ranch? Events begin tomorrow. Is it better to wait awhile to go or is this early in the season good? Thanks

I usually like to go later to make sure the elk have arrived on the meadow. However there are several hundred elk on the meadow now so I think anytime would work this season. The elk festival is Saturday December 12. Lots of fun stuff for the kids to do. It runs from 10:00--2:00

It truly depends on weather. The heavier the snow the better the elk numbers are on the ranch. BUT, most of the bigger bulls tend to head to private land instead of coming to the ranch but it is always fun to see elk that close.

Worth the trip any time of the winter!
Check this link for the elk festival.

I think the Biathlon would be fun to try. I wish I could make it, but have plans.
Sounds like 200 or so elk migrated in a couple weeks ago. Will more move in as more snow accumulates in the mountains?
They usually do. Last year at the peak we were up and saw around 800 or so.
Sounds like it's worth the wait. I think we will wait a month or so to go up there. Thanks

Me and the wife came to this very conclusion discussing this matter earlier in the week. I hunt elk alot up there but have never been up to the ranch for the sleigh rides. Partly for fear of seeing those bulls that eluded me during my 2013 LE tag and have them torment me after the tag soup they offered up. :D. However, I think I'm over it now and I'm sure my kids will love it. The earlier post that suggested the bigger bulls move to private rather than the ranch made me feel a little better also :)

The festival was a lot of fun this morning! There were quite a few elk in the field already, and lots of fun activities for the kids.
Has anyone been up recently? There's been a lot of snow up there. Has it pushed a lot in there yet?
I was there a week ago before the storm. There was a few inches of snow on the ground, should be a lot more now. There were between 300-400 elk in the field
Nothing huge, but a really cool small 7x7 that I'd love to see in 3-4 years. He had 3" kickers straight out on both swords.
