How can I find out about undersubscribed hunts? I never put in for anything, but would like to take my son out after some big game if possible.

You can find that information on DWR's website.

It pretty much looks like you are out of luck for Utah big game this year though. I don't know the status in neighboring states, or if that is an option to you. I don't think Idaho has quotas on deer tags, and it seems like Wyoming usually has some extra antelope doe tags around that can be purchased over the counter.

Yup, unless you're willing to hunt elk with a bow, you're a day late on this one. There really are no undersubscribed big game hunts in Utah. Deer permits have been gone for awhile, and the last of the general elk permits sold out yesterday.
