I would guess ears around 23-24. Antler width around 27-28.

Disproportionately large ears are a side effect of pesticides. Were you able to get a good look at his balls?
26" ears.
My paunsy buck had BIG ears, 26". He doesn't look real wide, but is 31"
My 30" buck has 22" ears. Makes him look wider than the 31.

Before I was guessing from a picture on my phone.
I just scaled it on my home computer and have it with 24" ears and right at a 30" mainframe with another inch or so for the cheaters.

I wouldn't be willing to bet anyone he's over 30 inches but he's real close.

I'd say the frame is 30, probably between 190-195, the inside spread ins't that good and his mains are I'm guessing 22". Close?

I don't think it would score much more than 180" for the reasons you stated.

After looking closer I agree. 180-182ish. The long g2s cant make up for the short inside spread. No doubt the velvet buck is bigger, I'm really hoping to see him on the winter range, doubtful though.
I think he is 28" frame, 30" with cheaters. I posted this because he appears to barely wider than his ears. I thought this was a little strange for a 30" class deer.----SSSpringville, since you guys saw the buck in person.

The standard for judging width by the ears is one of the best myths going out there.
This buck is pushing 30. Not sure if he quite gets there on his frame, but I think he breaks the 30 mark with the cheaters.

+1 to what Vanilla said. As a taxidermist I've seen a lot of dead mule deer. I've seen ears ranging from 22" tip to tip all the way up to 28".
