We thought we'd get back over and fish HN before school lets out and it's overrun by all the recreational folks.

We (3 of us) launched our tubes about 8:30 and fished until 1:30 when a storm blew in. The weather was great up until then and of course the fishing was just starting to pick up.

We used the usual fly tackle, fast sinking lines and size 6 & 8 bead head leeches, soft hackles, and buggers. This trip was a little like the last time over there, lots of 13" to 16" chubs. There are some nesting bald eagles near the reservoir and we provided them with a few easy meals. The thing is when you see a lot of fish on the sonar there are always a few large fish in the bunch that you want to get to but in most cases the chubs are the ones you hook. We did manage a few 16" catfish, a couple of rainbows 16" and 19", and one 24" 5 lb. 10 oz. wiper.

The water temperature was 60-62 degrees and the visibility in the water of about 5'. The reservoir is 85% full and going down.

There was one boat on the water while we were there and they were trolling, not sure how they did.

Nice wiper! Did you get that one?
I'd like to say I did, but no, it was the guy holding the fish.

We were just on our way in because of the incoming storm and he hooked it. Needless to say the fish did not go quietly and it took him several minutes to get it in. He said he needs to get a bigger net. ;)

It was a nice way to finish, what was otherwise a disappointing day on the water.
We all got soaked but it was worth it.

Experience takes dreadfully high school wages, but he teaches like no other. Nice catch!
