Does anybody know the status of the ice at hyrum Reservoir? Got a kit that wants to try ice fishing, and that's the closest spot for me.

Last I heard from the DWR website is that Hyrum was only 10%ish full, my question would be does it even have any water to freeze? If it does at that level it should have frozen quickly.

What's normal time range for safe ice there? Any best areas to try?

I drove by last month. Looked like it was at least 75% full.

Taken on Christmas. Not quite there yet, but it is 6° F right now so it will be thicker by morning. The Hyrum Reservoir fills up rather quickly after they quit irrigating. There is plenty of water for fishing.

Friday December 28

I just drove by the res. There is only one little puddle, about a quarter acre, of open water left. There was 60 geese and 150 or so ducks in that pothole and on the ice surrounding it. If it stays cold, it will probably all freeze tonight. I would not dare guess how thick any of the ice is though. I didn't see any fishermen on the ice.
