Hey all, I built an AR in 2020 after the dude who now lives in the white house won, just in case his hair brained schemes worked and they did manage to get rid of them. I was more-so banking on the dude who sleeps with models and owns a cool house in Florida winning, and spending that money instead on a Ruger Mini-14 which is much more my speed. But hey, ya know? It didn't work out that way.
So, I put all the pieces together with my ex-wife's now second ex-husband (we became friends to spite her, and we were raising kids together), he is a mechanical engineer who works for a local gun company so don't @ me on his building skills, I trust him. It worked fine until this weekend, when all of a sudden my trigger won't reset? It chambers another round, but I have to flick the safety on and off to get the trigger to reset. Is there anyone out there that can help me with this issue or know what it might be? I'd be appreciative of any help! I really don't know s from shinola.
Second ex-husband and I haven't seen each other since their divorce was final cuz he actually liked my kids and was nice to them, and had a hard time not having them in his life anymore so I give him space.
My life is indeed a soap opera in case you ever want some tea.
Thanks.

All of it. Hiking is terrible without a gun or rod in my hands.

Did you check the flux capacitor? That helps reset everything.

I think Dallan and I were both right. There is a burr on the sear, but somebody already knew that and didn't do anything to rectify it.
If the sear isnt properly heat treated, working the action will cause some wear and create a burr on the backside as the face wears. Its like sharpening a knife and you get that rolled burr on the other side of the blade.

This thread makes me want to go plinking... I havent shot my stag in way too long... I'm going to have to address that soon. My shooting spot is probably too sloppy with mud though to get in there though...

Riddle me this, Dallan. I have a Criterion barrel with a 1:7 twist and it shoots its lousiest groups with heavy bullets. Doesn't shoot well with light bullets either. It does its best work with medium weight 50-62 grain bullets with a clear preference for 50 and 55 grain Blitzkings. I thought that fast 1:7 twist would shoot those long, heavy bullets better and might not do so well with varmint bullets. 50 and 55 grain blitzkings=bug hole groups.

Too many variables to guess... is the crown even with no flaws? My absolute favorite AR bullet is a 65gr Sierra GameKing. Boy, I was happy when those came out, I tried reloading for them and got a .39" group first try. The gamekings would be fine for hunting as well for deer or pronghorn.

But your thinking is right, a 1:7 is plenty fast enough for big long bullets... its strange it wont stabilize them. What velocity are the loads?

Glad you have at least a load that does work well... blitzkings are fun bullets for making things disappear in a red mist.

My memories a little fuzzy by now, but I think when I shot loads through a buddy's chronograph right after we built it, the Hornady Black 75 grain bthp rounds shot at 2,700 and change and the varmint loads were in the 3,000 to 3,100 range out of the 16 inch barrel. Maybe some handloading or continued experimenting with factory loads would find me an accurate heavy bullet. I'm not overly concerned about it though. Making things disappear in a red mist as you say, is the purpose of this gun.

I got some 77 grain BTHP shooting around 3000 FPS you should try, if you like turning things into a red mist… 🤭
