I just wanted to vent some frustration. My buddy from work (a local PD) grew up in Ogden with a rancher who has some land just West of Echo Reservoir. Long story short, my friend spoke with this "rancher" earlier this year and got permission for us to hunt deer and elk on his ranch of over 1000 acres of private property. We were told that no one else hunts this area since it is private and that the neighboring properties would allow us to hunt there as well. So we've been out there scouting out some really nice bucks and a few decent bulls all Spring and Summer with no problems. Well, yesterday we go out after work and find the first property gate locked! We speak with neighbor who's gate we've passed 100 times before to access the other property we have permission to hunt he says it's locked to keep all the bowhunters out who don't have permission. Well, we show him our written permission to hunt this guy's land and he says, "well he only has 300 acres and it's all plowed and planted." What?  So he pulls out his county plot map and shows us everyone's property lines and sure enough.....that is all he has. So my buddy calls his "rancher" friend, who's in his 60's, and is told he doesn't lease any of the other land but people "usually just let his friends and family" hunt there. This other guy who we were with last night says, "BS", they already have 30-40 people there every year to hunt this land.  So basically, we've wasted the entire Spring and Summer scouting this area, because we really don't have permission now to hunt here, unless we want to hunt the plowed fields.....where neither of us has ever seen anything except coyotes and rabbits.
Anyway, thanks for enduring my gripe session.....but I probably should stop now so I can try to go scout some new area for the next two weeks before the hunt opens......

that is one bad deal there, kind of late to be closing off to bow hunters, seeing how the season is over.
