A buddy, his son, and I drew the late elk tag with November hunt dates for this unit. I know the east and south side of this unit really well but don't have any experience on the west side. We are going to make a scouting trip in early September (hopefully to hear some bugling) and scout the west side for terrain etc. My question is, if we hunt the west side, should we hotel it for a week and burn lots of gas and time going back and forth or take a trailer? If we take a trailer where should I look for camp spots? (The other part of scouting the west side)
When my wife drew the tag 3 years ago we tented it on the east side, boy was it cold.

If I had that tag I would hunt the south east side of the mountain and drag the trailer up to lower two mile road........... Thats just what I would do. I would also take a good look at Polar Mesa if the snow isn't too deep yet. If you like to talk more pm me as I have an archery any bull tag for the area this year.
