I accidently put large rifle magnum primers in about fifty .308 cases. I have three loads for .308 that have been winners for me; one for semi-autos and pump guns and two others for bolt action rifles, all with large rifle primers.

Should I develop a new load?
Back off a grain or two on the powder?

Don't worry about it?
If so, will the lights go out in Georgia? Will it be hasta la vista baby? Boom shok-a-loka, boom shok-a-loka at the range?

Geeze, I hate scrapbooking, reloading, fly-tying, and rod-building...and in that order.

Depending on the powder used and how much pressure you are already at it can increase pressure from 4000psi to 9000psi. The higher pressure you are already at the more magnum primers increase it (I don't think I understand that, but that's what the gurus say). I'd de-prime and start over.

50 isn't a huge loss if you just deprime, couple bucks worth. I agree with Cookey, if you have a bread and butter load to just punch'em out and go with your known load.

Otherwise, I've always heard start over with a 5-10% reduction and work back up.

Powders are IMR4064, IMR4895, and Win 748.
Magnum primers work well with ball powders like Win 748, but again, you'd have to start over on a load.
I've knocked live primers out a time or two... I soaked 'em in a bucket of water first...and wore a face shield.

Did some Google searching on 308/mag primers and found that a good number of .308/W748 recipes call for Mag primers like Cooky said. So I deprimed one-half of the cases and will develop another load with the other half. Maybe I'll do a 165gr long range load. The .308 is a great long range caliber; I just never used it for that.

thanks everyone

One of they guys I shoot long range with uses them with his varget. I think he did it on accident when I seen him doing it. But acted like it was ok. His rifle still was fine.

Probably be easier to pull your components apart and just fire the blanks. Magnum's will probably amplify psi, but how dramatically is the question. Hell, maybe they'll shoot even better.

If you're loaded at max, need to break them down, if you're not loaded at max, shoot one or two and and look for pressure signs. If you don't see them shoot and enjoy the rest of them.
