Looking for elk and deer

820 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  bow_dude
I am headed to the Odgen area to spend some time with family this weekend. I wanted to bring my new spotting scope and try to find some animals. I am planning on heading up to find some Mtn Goats above Willard but also wanted to find a good spot to see deer and elk from a distance. I an NOT hunting in this area(I have a Zion tag) I just want to spot some animals. Any suggestions? Weber, Morgan and Cache county is the area I will be.

Deer and elk live in the same area as those goats... not many elk, but they are there.
A good place to get close to mountains goats in a hurry is Bald Mountain at Bald Mountain Pass on Utah 150, the Mirror Lake Highway. Go early in the morning.

No deer or elk though.

good luck

You could try monte cristo, east canyon, and blacksmith fork for elk.

You could try middle fork, north Ogden pass, Farmington peak, tony grove, antelope island for deer.

i think antelope island would be the easiest place to view animals.

Slightly southwest of inspiration point, where the mtn goats are and a couple thousand vertical feet lower you will find elk. East of why 89 and west of the base of the mtn They seem to really like one of the irrigated fields there. I think the farmer must supplement his sprinklers with selenium There has even been an albino bull or two in there. ;)

East of the highway about 100 yards (I think it is highway 89) at Rocky Point just south of Willard is a whole bunch of elk that reside within the fenced area. Sometimes they are visible and sometimes not.
