Fished Mantua this morning.
I tried 3 different spots in search of some Perch for a pot of Pig Out Perch Chowder.
I was able to bring home 15 nice Perch that were 9" to 11".
I released about 70 Bluegill while looking for the Perch.
I also released over 20 smaller Perch.
Looks promising for ice season this year! :D
I was using a double set up with a Rat Finkie 12" above a small gold spoon.
I used Perch meat to get the big Perch. The Bluegill didn't like the Perch meat as much as worm.

Grndpa D,

Nice job. Send me a PM or ive me a call if you'd like some company on your next trip up there. We can use my boat or yours. I'm free most days during the week as you may recall.

Hi Bob.
Good to see that you found our new home here.
Thanks for the fishing invitation. I would like to take you up on it.
I like Mantua because it's so close to home and there is a good varity of fish there.
I look to see a lot better ice fishing there this winter.

Welcome fishing#1.
I have a question for you or anyone else that may know the answer.
I undertsand that Mantua has some areas that don't freeze as soon or as much as the rest of the reservoir.
Is there a map or something that shows these areas?
It would be nice to have a GPS location or something to help make walking out on the ice safer.

I enjoy ice fishing and my daughters even caught several fish last year. I did not make it up to Mantua during ice season last year though, so I will look forward to a great season this year! I think a get together would be a great idea!

Grandpa D,

That sounds like fun! My kids would love that! It sounds like you were fishing from a boat though? How is the fishing from shore? I have heard Mantua can have a lot of moss and weeds around the edges that make it hard to fish from shore.

I have never fished at Mantus from the shore.
I hope others that have will chime in here.
The South East side looks like it would fish alright from the shore.
The North West side along the rocks should also be worth trying. Try a worm and a bobber there.
