One mount that my taxidermist refuses to do is the straight up mount. The mount that just makes the deer look like it is straight on with its ears just normal. He gets angry when people come in and say they just want it mounted looking straight. I have to say I must agree. The point to having an animal mounted is for realism. While an animal may look straight and you might have taken the straight on shot. Try to relive the hunt and remember what the animal was doing either when you first spotted it or just before impact. Then in your imagination recreate it so that the taxidermist knows what he can do to help you relive your hunt every time you step into your living room.

When in doubt wall pedestal mounts look good every time. This buck that I had mounted is not a monster by any means, but when I snuck up on him he was bedded against a cliff and on approach I could see his antlers pointing above some rocks that were covering his body. I raised my rifle and walked towards him and as he bolted I was able to finish him off with a round through the heart. I will never forget that hunt because of how much of my energy of mine that buck had expended.
