What is the effectiveness of them?

Do you guys use them on your dogs?

What brand/model would you suggest?

Thanks in advance!

I use them with my dogs. I like them a lot. They get a bit of floatation with them as well as the added warmth. I also like them in late season because of the protection they get busting ice and whatnot. I have a Drake brand one that I have now and really like. Just make sure you measure your dog and get the correct size. Also you will probably have to trim up round the front armpits because if it is too tight, it'll rub your dog raw. I absolutely recommend getting one if you hunt in cold weather.
Chessies don't need no vests.....
Seriously, I tried one on my Chesapeake when he was a pup and I honestly think it made him colder. Haven't run one on him since and he seems to do fine, but if your dog gets cold I'm sure it will help them out.
I use a vest on mine when it gets real cold or there is ice to fight through. I like the velcro closure on the cabelas vest. It is quite adjustable so it will fit tight but not to tight in places. I also cover mine in a coat when she is sitting still after a wet retrieve for extra wind protection.

I have a 2 a medium and a large. Neither one fit my GWP, I think they are designed for labs or non tall slender dogs.

I did have my GWP try wearing the medium and it started to rub him in the arm pits, so I took it off.

The Large was too loose on my wirehair.

On a side note the medium fits my basset hound well and is good for walks in the cold or snow.
Use them on my Chessie all the time after about November.
I use one for my lab after ice forms cant find one to fit my gsp the right way. I like the Avery brand.

Alright, So I picked up an XL Tanglefree vest from Sportsman's this evening. My dog seems to have a large chest which is snug in the XL, but her waist and neck are a little skinny for the vest. The vest is tight on the top of neck and loose on the bottom/underside of her neck, but I think after I trim the armpit area a bit that will loosen up the top of the neck area. Does it look like this vest will work for her or should I get a different one. I'm not too sure how it is supposed to fit!

She is just about 1.5 years old.. Should I get a XXL for her to grow into or just keep this XL until her chest is too big for it?

Is she an awkward shaped dog?:D

It looks like it fits okay on her. My dogs vest fits tighter too, never been a problem and he is bone dry when the vest comes off. BTW Sierra Trading Post had those Tanglefree vests on clearance for $12
Mine fits my dog like yours does Adam. The neck is really big but her chest is just right. But it's still a good thing to have handy.
