Panguitch Lake Sunday December 4, 2016:

still some open water out in the middle, but a few people have punched holes close to shore:

Talked to Mike from the DWR today and he said with the warm weather it has thinned and there looks to be some open water, it was about 4 inches near the north boat ramp with some venturing out yesterday.

I also fished Panguitch on 12/27 and found a 4 inch slush monster on the way out onto the ice and it grew by 2 inches coming back in. This with about 5 inches of powdery snow as the top layer.

Ice was about 11 inches thick with about 5 inches of solid clear base ice and 6 inches of ice with bubbles in it on top. At least it was quiet.

Caught quite a few fish and ended with my limit of rainbows (person rule that anything under 14 inches goes back). Except for about having a heart attack getting off the ice, it was a great day!

Went Sat Feb 25 and Fri Mar 3. There's 16" of good ice with just a 1/2 inch of hard snow on top, but it's snowing as I type and there will likely be a foot of it in the morning (Mon Mar 6).

FWIW, Thanks to whoever changed the name of this thread from Panguitch Reservoir to Panguitch Lake. This forum was the only place any of us down here ever heard it being called a reservoir.:D

Edited: Now they just need to learn how to spell it!

that dam confuses people.

Kind of like Quail Lake. (Quail Creek Reservoir)

That's the case, isn't it?

And Navajo Lake - same thing as Panquitch. Those two lakes have been there for thousands of years. The small dam on Panguitch was put there to increase the size and the dike on Navajo was put there for the same reason and for the benefit of anglers. (But since we've already been through this discussion, I may regret bringing it up again. Sorry!)

Went again this morning (late) and found about 1" of slush on top, but by the time I left (about 5:00pm) there was about 2" of slush and the edges and boat ramp were deteriorated and wouldn't hold a heavy man about 2 feet out. (I saw 2 men go through.) It's getting tricky, be careful!

I was also up there Saturday, arrived at about 8:30 no slush till about 10 or 11 but not too bad, 4 to 5 inches of soft ice with about 10 inches of clear ice below. We left about 2;30, but it was warm but we didn't see any problems. We were on the north side near the dam.
