Ice is 5 1/2 inches by the boat rental marina. There were two significant ice shifts today resulting in lake width compression ridges. Ice settled down around noon.

6 inches of solid clear ice, 3 inches of slush and a half foot of snow. Some spots you'll step through a layer of snow and crusty slush and it will make you question going out there. Drilled several test holes and it was good with the thinnest stuff being right at 5 inches. Slush is likely from weight from the snow and snow melting because of higher temps but that compresses the existing ice. It was really quiet ice with no shifting or swelling.

14-15" of good ice with 2" of crusty snow on top. 01/22/16 (By the way, it's Panguitch Lake, not Panguitch Reservoir! It's a natural lake with a dam placed at the outlet to create a bigger lake.)

It's not used as a source of water supply nor as a source of water generating power, thus it is NOT a reservoir. A nearby natural lake, Navajo Lake, also has a dam that was placed solely for the benefit of fishermen per the SR 14 overlook sign. It provides a more convenient shoreline for fishing and it increases the depth of the lake to allow for better fish survival during the winter, but it actually makes it smaller in area. It also has been called a lake during my lifetime (and before per any historical map you may look at). The same as has Panguitch Lake.
