I believe you would be referring to the Jordan River. And there are fish in it, mostly carp but an occassional sucker, catfish and actually on occassion some rainbow. The water quality is poor but I have seen game fish caught near there. I have never fished it myself mostly beacuse one of the reasons I fish is an excuse to get OUT of the city.
Hit it up right there under the bridge. I have caught lots of fish in that same spot. Either a worm off the bottom, or a shrimp, or some carp meat. I have caught several whites in that area as well, but they seem to not be biting this time of year. Let us know how you do if you decide to go.
I live just right around the corner from Gardner Village. The bridge is a good spot, the water is pretty slow in that particular spot. There is a lot of vegetation in that area, so you might have to hop over the cement barrier on the walkway.
