Saturday's Report

I hunted at the BRBR this Saturday. I was the only one with decoys of the 5 parties on the pond. Funny thing, as I was calling ducks and shooting, the other 4 parties moved closer and closer to my decoys. I ended up not passing on the goldeneyes just to get my limit and pack up. I hate shooting anything I can't eat, but I had a few guys shooting all the ducks working the decoys and landing some bb's over my spread. As soon as I got my 7, I packed up and so did everyone else. Still a pretty fun hunt.

I also broke through ice the whole way out and back.

Well you got 1 good duck.:p I dislike spoonies, goldeneyes and ruddy ducks. I do wonder though about the mercury that is supposedly higher in some species. I'm guessing all species have it to some degree.

Nice bag,

Just curious as I have willingly stopped shooting goldeneyes, how do you cook them up?
Hey, I'm just jealous you shot a limit. I was out at BRBR the same day, but we had much less luck. However, we dragged a ton of decoys out in darkness and got all set up, and had a similar situation with other hunters. Two groups walked in well after shooting light and conveniently sat down within 100 - 150 yards from us. One had no decoys, the other had a single mojo. As soon as we packed up, one of these groups packed up as well. So I have to ask - is that a legitimate hunt strategy that people use? Go find someone who is already set up and sit near them? Seems like a boring plan to me. Both groups may have been young hunters. I did have to yell over to one group, as they were about to set up 75 yards away over the edge of my decoys, which would have been a good place to get shot at. They moved about 50 yards and sat down :)

eat those suckers! I breast out all my divers/spoonies, grind them, then do the math and add about 25% pork in the form of ground bacon (buy thick cut and grind it myself). Season with some Chinese 5 spice, fry up some in burger form, use a teriyaki sauce, pretty dang good!

I know a few states have laws to prevent things like this happening. But unfortunately this is what duck hunting is for a lot of people. I'm not sure if they're ignorant or what. It gets extremely annoying though. But I'd take that over a boat going through my decoys and then parking just 100 feet down from me. That seems to always happen to me at BRBR. At least the foot soldiers know how to hide.
Try hunting the north end of Catahoula lake in Central LA. You can almost walk across the lake on decoys and never get your foot wet.

That's because LA is Duck Dynasty capitol.
