Like I previously posted I had a project in Sterling on Friday. A buddy and I took off several hours early and decided to fish our way down there. First, we hit up Scofield. I was going for my fisrt tiger and fate would have it that my buddy would get one and not me. I was still pumped for him

However I did have an extremely bitter sweet memory. I hooked up with one of the biggest fish of my life. A 30 inch, 5.5 pound Cutt. It fought like a champion and to put it simply, it was just a freaking pig. It gave me a bit of a ride on the float tube. The bitter aspect came when I was attempting to take the pic. I was taking the hook out and attempting to hold it up and sure enough the hoss started flip around and by some freaking miracle unhooked itself off my crank, out of my net and into the lake. I was in shock! I wanted that pic soooo bad.

We finished up at Scofield and headed down to Palisades. We both pulled in a couple Bows, and we're able to take some breathtaking pics as the sun was coming down.

First off, those pics WERE awesome. Good job. 8)

Secondly, I can't imagine a 30" trout is only 5.5lbs. I'm thinking at least 7, but probably more. Just my shake on it.

I'm not saying you didn't catch the fish, but if it really was 30", it would've been a slinky @ 5.5.

But I DO feel your pain in the loss of a lifetime. That's a bummer. It would've made for a great photo op. At least you got to hold it, though. Most of my biggest losses were fish that I could only see thrashing below the surface about 4 feet away then SNAP! Dust.

It keeps fishing exciting, though. That's why we love it.

Props on a great day. What was working so well at Scofield?

LOAH

To tell you the truth I only got the measurement on the length. For some reason I only brought my tape measure out with me and forgot my weigher. I was bringing it to shore to weigh it and was only 2 feet away when he ran on me. I had to eyeball it. It was VERY girthy, I guess I under-shot myself on the weight. That's the problem with not getting a proper weigh in, you have to kinda guess.

We were both using cranks at Scofield. I can't remember the brand of the crank I was using, but it was a pretty pricey one I got from Sportsmans. It's Japanese made, hand painted, with super sharp hooks, and good quality ball bearings inside to give it a great rattle. I sure someone in here will know who makes them.

Considering that trout are one of the stouter built fish for their length, only bass, and panfish are stouter in build, also considering that a 30" walleye wieghs in at least 10 lbs, and eyes are generally skinnier than trout, and considering it is fall so the fish are fattening up, I would venture to guess you had a 10+ pounder on your pole. Probably more, unless it was as skinny as some of the Berry cutts.
Wow, that was a long run-on sentence.

I just checked and it was a Lucky Craft. The dude at Sportsman/Cabelas (I can't remember where I bought it) said it would be money and it was!

You sold me I ponied up the 15 bones for a lucky craft ghost minnow. It will get it's first test on Saturday but if a fish snapps me off I am diving in after my lure. At 15 bones a pop they are not exactly as cheap as daredevils or jakes. I will hopefully post a monster with a ghost minnow hanging out of its mouth!
