Drove down Spanish canyon to see how far we could get up skyline dr. Creek was running super high. Worried that river crossing would be out. And it was. The reckless would be hesitant. Decided to go hike around for a couple of hours. When we came back tothat portion of the road it was waaaay worse. It's gonna be a project to get access open to everyone. Turkey and shed hunt up high are outta question. My guess it's gonna get worse.

Afraid that is going to be a common theme clear into the summer.
I'm guessing that the culvert got plugged and they the water washed over the road.

I saw some pictures of the Fairview Lakes area up on top near Goosberry and the main Skyline Dr road is not going to be open for quite a while. And I suspect that further south it just may be August before you can go across it.
I’m sure that will be a common issue all across the state. These are right fork Hobblecreek canyon. With the high temps coming next week it will only get worse, maybe a lot worse for higher elevation spots:(

I haven't had a chance to get out and see what's left of many areas I frequent. (garden and yard work) But I'm sure there will be areas that will be closed for repair, and some may never open. I get mad and ask sometimes "why the hell aren't they fixing this"? Then I snap out of my personal pitty and the "all about me" thinking. I was once the individual operating the iron and I remember what it was like dealing with individuals that had attitudes like me. Really embarrassing thinking about it.:cautious:

All I can advise is, that we have patience, give the crews time and room to work safely and stay out of the way. The roads will be open and we'll be hitting the hills in good time.

Been wondering what conditions were like up there. Now I know. Not worth taking the UTV for a ride since I'd only make it that first mile to the creek.

I imagine there are other spots farther up the road that are also seeing some wash out.

I figured I post this just for that reason. No sense in ppl not knowing the road is closed and waste time and gas. Maybe it'll cross the eyes of someone who is in charge of fixing the roads.

Thanks for the update. I've been wondering what it looked like so far and not surprised that it looks like that. Any idea if the road will actually get fixed? I'm curious if the Skyline road by Gooseberry is snow packed and muddy or if there's water damage as well.
I saw a picture of the Fairview Lakes area a week ago, and there is plenty of snow left up there.
Call me crazy, or selfish, but with all the crowding as of late, and these road closures - family camping aside, what I see is opportunity. Great time to backpack maybe if you can find a stable crossing.

Downside is it's going to funnel everyone into what areas are still accessible if skyline isn't. Memorial day weekend should be twice the circus it normally is for those attending.

Yea we're not even remotely planning a normal camping trip over Memorial day. Last year we got snowed on, it was cold but ok. I'm not fighting the crowds. Might just get the boat out and do a day trip somewhere.
