My first day on the Front this year and there are so many moose, it's a joke. Since SL county allows no guns, (and there aren't many legal places to shoot if they did), I see no reason why the wildlife board can't issue a bunch of archery moose tags separate from the OIL draw. I've been told that the subject isn't a new idea and is even likely to come up at the RAC this year. Let's make some noise and see if we can't make it happen.

I think that would be a great idea. Why we are at it why don't we get some archery tags for the goat, sheep and all of the other OIL hunts that we have here.

The only other OIL animals in SL county besides moose are goats, but there's no indication that they're over populated. I doubt that there are two many moose, either, but the numbers are headed that way. At present, they aren't being hunted at all. So it seems to come down to a choice, given the regulations against guns. Either control the population by archery hunts or capture and export the excess animals.

Aside from this single issue, there's no reason to change the current OIL hunts.

No I was agreeing with you. I would love to have archery OIL hunts. And it's not because of over poplutaion but rather hunter opportunity. Success rates would be alot lower on these hunts and that means alot more tags would be given out to make up for the lost harvest from those rifle tags.
