I have a cow tag for the south slope yellowstone unit. I am very familiar with the soapstone area. I went up yesterday and after all day of hunting and glassing I am fairly certain the elk are not there. Only two tracks of which I am sure is a bull elk or even a moose. I hunted from as low as Noblets and log hollow to as high as the top of soapstone mountain and glassed the silver meadows/phelps brook/buckboard creek area. I am pleased to announce that rabbits and coyotes are alive and doing quite well all over the region. Seen plenty of sign for them. But no elk and very very little deer. Does anyone have any tips as to where to find the elk. I am at a lost now and would really like to fill my tag.
