Well! I finally found the right bow!!
Automotive tire Electronic instrument Automotive exterior Computer hardware Machine

I was able to find a holdover 2022 Hoyt Ventum Pro that fit me right and was comfortable on the draw cycle! Only negative is that I wish it was a solid color vs the camo, but I can live with it.

Now to get it set up and start practicing! I’ll be setting up an indoor range at work which should be fun.

Which hunt would better a better option for a first time archer, spike or any bull?

I am now a bit familiar with the Wasatch LE area from my hunt this past Fall, so that could play a part into which tag.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!

If you feel comfortable with Wasatch then the spike tag may be a good option. That’s assuming the rules don’t change and things remain as they have been for a few years. I haven’t researched the new proposals or changes much. Last year with the “hunters choice” archery tag you could shoot a spike or a cow with your bow on the Wasatch unit. That made for a pretty versatile hunt and a good hunt to learn on.

One nice aspect of the archery general elk hunt is you can hunt any bull and spike units on the same tag. After getting familiar with Wasatch, I would start there, get into elk, and have some fun. But, you also have all year to scout and learn other areas. It’s good to have options!

If the regs change on archers choice, it doesn't matter. In any event your better off sticking with an area you know well. Setting yourself up in one spot, verses another spot 20 yards away on the same escape / travel route you know the elk use makes all the difference.

So, I guess I'm a little behind on the whole elk plan stuff. So as of right now general season archery tags are still good for either sex?
The quick answer is yes.
The long answer is people really need to study the new elk plan to understand the new changes. And FWIW it is a 10 year plan with the caveat that it will be looked at in 3 years.

They tried to do away with that this year. That’s what he meant by checking the current regs.
Fortunately the effort to eliminate hunter choice on archery elk failed. The only good thing the Wildlife Board did this year.
