UL Catfish Favorite Cut Bait?

What is the most productive cut bait? You guys using white bass, carp, chub, shrimp, or something else? I have always used white bass and only white bass. With fewer white bass this year, I have none left for cut bait and wondering if I should get some of TOgdens chubs.

I’ve used all of them but a white bass fillet always catches the big ones.
If we are talking Utah Lake, then yes, white bass. In other fisheries, different baits work better.

I often like to use a chunk of white bass meat along with a piece of nightcrawler on the hook. The combo often outperforms each component used alone.
I fished Utah Lake for years and used everything available, the best bait that we found was shrimp. Just peal them and stick on a hook.

Other than that it was carp meat the day after we blew one up in Mud Lake with a cherry bomb.

I voted shrimp, but I've never used white bass, carp, or chub meat so my vote doesn't mean much. I have always had good luck with shrimp on a circle hook regardless of what lake I'm at.
Doesn't matter what I use. I can't catch a sunburn on than dang pond. 😣

I'll take carp meat over whitebass, perch heads also work outstanding.
I watched a guy a few years ago that was ripping the lips off the channel cats. It was like a kitty every 5 minutes. He was leaving, so I walked over and asked what he was using. He had made a concoction with velveeta cheese and some other stuff and destroyed them.
Velveta cheese as bait takes me back in time. Growing up dad always had a block of cheese with us. Didn’t think those high dollar baits were worth it.
Night crawlers (whole, large) bouncing/dragging bottom under a snap-on bobber has worked best for us. Just water your lawn and grab a flashlight. win-win

I’ve always liked stinky shrimp just because it holds together well and doesn’t break apart all that easily.
I always seem to catch a catfish on the least intended/undergunned rig. Usually a small hook with half a crawler under a bobber trying for bluegill or other panfish near weeds close to shore.

When u guys use white bass fillets, are you leaving the skin side on? Seems if it was a true “finished fillet”, it would not hold up well.

Growing up in OK, I caught my fair share of cats back in the day. So many that I don’t appreciate them as much as many others here. I have been getting the itch though as of late to chase them again. Nothing like a good fried kitty fillet with hush puppies and green beans with bacon on the side!
I literally use half a fish. Cut right through the spine of a smallish ******.
Ha ha it blocks out whiteee

A fishing buddy and I were talking about this very thing the other day.

I usually remove it. WB meat is quite firm and as such stays on the hook decently well, especially if they are fresh. I find it easier to handle than "skin on" pieces. However, pieces often will eventually fall off after a few casts. My buddy usually leaves it on. I can't complain about my catfishing results, but some days do seem to favor one method over another.
A friend that seems to have the luckiest fishing pole in the world, uses WB but will get the frozen bag of seafood at WalMart. It has octopus, crab, squid, and other stuff. He makes a "sandwich" by layering Octopus first then WB and then Octopus. The octopus seems to help hold the bass on the hook when casting it out. He slams the cats with his creation, but like I said....He has the luckiest pole in the world.

I always leave the skin on the white bass. It never falls off the hook with the skin attached and I can reuse that fillet for several cats before it gets too beat up. I saved a carp to make bait from last week's bowfishing expedition. For the guys that use carp, are you removing the scales? Skin?
I have never used carp or white bass for bait. I do leave the skin on when I use perch. Same goes for shrimp.

Carp scales are like a silver dollar, and I have always removed them. I've removed the skin to, but I don't know if it made any difference.
To remove scales I screwed 2 beer bottle caps onto a little dowel rod, it scrapes scales right off and was fun to get the caps for... i made 10 more!!
