I have thought about using a treestand where I rifle elk hunt because of the very thick, flat terrain. There are are some tall ponderosa pines and aspens I could set a stand and would be able to see 200 or 300 hundred yards out. Has anyone used a stand during Utahs rifle seasons?

I've considered this myself-
Sportsman's has a couple of buget priced stands in Midvale.
My question is, what is the Forest Svc.'s or BLM's opinion on erecting permanent stands on public land. Is this doable?

I think rifle hunting from a stand is a great idea- it places you at an elevated position, up and away from where critters (cervids) are most likely to look for danger. Also, the obvious advantages of locating movement. Just don't place yourself in the only tree in the middle of a stand of scrub. That might be kinda dumb.
