The Bear River has been very low all summer and the guys at the refuge have been playing water tag with what little water there has been. Instead of letting the water fill up one area and letting the moss and feed grow, they would just flood it and then move the water around. SO, there are NO ducks or geese on the refuge this year. Only about 2 inches of "new water" on unit 2, and some on unit three. Only shore birds to be seen.
Try Salt Creek, or the Public Shooting grounds. There are lots of ducks there, because the refuge is what it is. Sad.
Cache is another good place, but I make a point, EVERYONE is going to be on those three waters. A lesser hunted place is out to Locomotive Springs, but it too gets hit pretty hard on the opening weekend.
Good luck! Take a Duck to Lunch!
