Youth any bull

Hello, My daughter drew her youth any bull tag luckily and I am so pumped for her. I have been spending my time on the wasatch the last 6 years and will definitely be checking my old general bull stomping grounds out in the Unitas.

But I am hoping for some insite from someone who has been on this hunt lately. We’re the elk rutting hard, was it crowded, how was the experience. I only get one shot at this for her and am not above looking for help in hopes one of my old advise pms returns the favor

Here we go again. Yet another person who just made an account 14 years ago and within their first 1,446 posts is already asking for a honey hole... Sheesh.

But seriously, congrats and I wish I had info to help you on this one.

Congrats and good luck! This will be our first early youth elk as well. I don't expect it to be easy due to pressure and I don't expect the elk to respond too well to calling. I'm hoping to be in the woods early and use their bugles to locate if at all possible.

My son drew this one as well. I expect that September 16 might be a tad early but we'll see. Should be able to locate elk assuming there's elk where we're hunting. Pretty excited for the kid!

I bet this is the best year to have it, considering the 3 season elk tag going away. I bet there is less overall people out due to the 3 season allowing your typical rifle hunters a chance with a bow. Where now, you are going to only get archery only people! Congrats to all!

Don't forget they added a few new any bull areas also.

Will they be overrun by archery hunters? I wondered about this.

I speak for all archers and the answer is, yes.

personally, I won’t be in any of those spots, I’ll be chasing spikes and cows while simultaneously looking for deer for my dedicated tag.

We are also archery hunters and happy to have them. Just curious about the number of archery tags in these areas going on at that time. 👍🏻

Gotcha. I was just messing around. Point I was trying to make is, I bet they’re all going to get hit pretty heavy
Solid advice 👍🏻. We will go to our old tried and true elk spot and hope it’s even better earlier.
I would just hunt the last week the Archery hunter will be hunting the first part and the spike Archery end a week before the open bull they all move to the open bull and last year they where real hard to get along with

Here is my right up from my daughters hunt two years ago. Hunted the high Unitas. Lots of bowhunters had the elk pretty scared and tight lipped. Took several days after the bow hunt ended to find an elk I could call in. We were in the backcountry about 10 miles. I think if you horse packed into any drainage and stayed mobile calling and covering country you would find a bull. It’s hard work though, especially for a kid. i honestly thought it was going to be a slam dunk hunt with the dates but I experienced a very similar hunt to the normal bow and rifle hunts regarding elk rut activity. I’m not slamming the bow hunters here, I am one myself but they bring a level of competition to the youth hunt. Good luck to ya

Congrats! Been hoping one of my kids would draw for years. My oldest has four more years before he's not eligible. 🤞

Thank you for posting, I had not seen your previous youth hunt post. Great info. Maybe we will start the hunt the day after archery ends.

This has got to be one of the better years to have that tag in several years. Congrats to all those that drew.
