what is that front globe made out of? I need something robust because I’m a glutton for punishment and always find myself hiking into the most hellish spots I can find. Because of this, my muzzleloader might take some beating, nothing to sever but the occasional fall.
Does it feel cheap, or like it will break easily?
The sight itself is built pretty tough, but only held on by one screw. Always makes me nervous that a good bump will loosen and move the whole housing. However, I ALWAYS have to run a gun sleeve over it because the crosshair inserts are very thin and I worry about not paying attention and having a branch run through and destroy the insert.

I have also ordered the Williams Western Precision. I got mine on Amazon so that I can return it if it doesn't work for me. Muzzle-loaders.com does not allow any scopes or sites to be returned if they've been mounted. I'm shooting an Accura MR but not the X so I'm hoping this setup will mount straight on. There is one threaded hole at the end of the barrel but only the scope mount holes on the receiver end so the rear site will have to go there. My son's Traditions rifle has pre tapped rear site holes already that are forward of the scope holes. We haven't decided what type of sites will put on his gun.

that’s odd, my optima has been drilled and threaded on both parts. I would call them and see if that was a mistake in the manufacturing process.

I don't believe that it would be a mistake.

When they are machining the barrels is it just much easier to dill and tap all of them instead of pulling some so that they are not drilled and tapped.

That way they can then just send the barrels to the different areas, scoped or sights.

If you have ever looked at anything that is mass produced you will see holes, and what not on one model where you have no idea of why it is there unless you look at another model that has a purpose for the holes. Your car and or truck is the same way.

Barrel sight mount holes are a pita. I always figured they got drilled after the barrel is attached to the action. Otherwise it would suck trying to screw in the barrel while trying to clock the barrel in the right spot so the holes align properly with the action holes. Way easier to attach the barrel properly, then drill the front site holes.

Either way, my sons Acura MR was never drilled. Luckily, it doesn't matter.

Alright, well ive been racking my brain over this for awhile. So I'll tell you my train of thought and what I ultimately did.

After going over reticles of available 1X prism scopes, i decided none of them would work for me in particular. All of them are for AR's but i figure maybe I could, with some range time, find one that has elevation holdovers, and then figure out what range each holdover would be with my standard loading. The closest I could find that was useable, was from primary arms. I looked in a lot of places too. , so I've just written off prism scopes.

That said, aging eyes is a thought, so bear with me.

And I've been researching open sights for awhile. On that note, there is A LOT I keep close to the chest, so I wasn't about to open my yap until I made a decision, and made the order, cause I figure they are gonna go fast.

Rear peep, this I think is a new release from williams, read it VERY carefully. (I'm running an accura MR-X)

I kid you not, it just became available like.... yesterday, and midway just got it in TODAY, I had a product arrival notification. I've had my eye on this rear peep for over a week.

Now my hope with this sight, is I can raise the elevation on the fly, as needed, i'll need to figure out which elevation adjustments bring me out to what yardage. So there's my BDC, not that I expect to hit anything too far away, but I like to have the option.
I have a similar sight on my Knight Wolverine 209. It has been absolutely terrific over the years. Excited to put it back on my rifle now. I use a fiber optic sight on the front, but did buy the globe front that I may play around with a bit.

I bought the western sight set for my CVA Acura MRX, but I am now a little nervous based on the things I have read. Might have to get this peep instead. Save huge amounts of time likely.

Gotta be some Utahns biding this up.

vortex Crossfire 1x24 Muzzleloader Scope With Rings | eBay

Currently selling for $422. Sheesh.
I saw that one the other day just after the WB meeting, it was well under $100 at that time.

I was semi lucky in that I had cataracts in both eyes. I had one taken care of years ago and then the other one a few years ago. I discussed with the Dr about what kind of vision I expected when he was done inserting the lenses.

After the surgery I no longer need glasses to see distant objects but I do need them to read some print. But since I already had my muzzle loaders set up for wearing glasses I am good to go.

I wish I had vision like I did back in 2010. Everything since 2020 has been a little fuzzy.
I know mine will start going at some point in the not to distant future but for now, I’ll take advantage of it

20/10! I thought I had good eyes at 20/15. Well, used to have good eyes. Now I have constantly decreasing peripheral and am maybe at 90 degrees between both eyes, probably being on the generous side. And I've got to flick my eyes around constantly to get the floaters out of the way to be able to use that 20/15 vision. I'm still using iron sights though!

Its amazing how fast eyes degrade. I have all kinds of astigmatism but so far they've been able to correct it pretty dang good for long distance vision using weighted contact lenses. I can see bucks from does at a really good distance, vision through bino's is good. Up close though, I cant see crap. I can tie a fly on though just through muscle memory, but anything else I need reading glasses. I use 2x for really up close work, picking out a splinter. For computer work 1.25 is perfect.

I’m pretty fortunate with my vision. That said, they tell me I’m colorblind and that is probably why my vision is so good, it’s making up for it.

the odd thing is, I can see colors, I can usually distinguish between most but do occasionally mess them up. Where I really struggle is with those stupid dot tests, the ones You can see an image in, if I get three right out of twenty I’m doing good

I worked with a telephone cable splicer who was color blind, but could see colors.

But his colors were not the same as what I could see but he could see his colors good enough to do his job.

1 in 12 men are color blind (8%). 1 in 200 women are color blind (0.5%). Like you said, its usually not severe enough to affect most people.

My son is colorblind, we only noticed it after showing him some of those colorblindness test images where you read the number. Its more of a muting of certain colors for people that shift the overall colors a bit.

I've always wondered about taste... does everyone taste things in the same way? Or is there some subtle variation like colors and colorblindness.
