I've used the app quite a bit to store my combination license, and I always downloaded my big game permits just to have them. But I saw this year the app is now adding the option to e-tag game. How many of you plan to use the electronic tag this year? I still am unable to download my dedicated deer tag despite finishing the hours and course, but am thinking I may try to use it this year if I find a deer that I want to shoot.

Maybe it is only for turkeys? I was just looking at the app earlier this year after an update and saw the notifications. Here is what the FAQ has to say, seems to be pretty generic so I assumed it would be available for big game.

I think the e-tag is just being beta tested right now. I got an email about it a bit ago, I believe?

They are rolling it out on a very small level to see how it works. (At least that’s what I had in my head and I haven’t gone back to find what I read about it.)

Vanilla is correct. I followed up with our person who's spearheading the e-tagging program, and he wanted me to relay a few things. So far, we've just done a limited e-tagging test for turkey. (We wanted to gauge how it was received and how it functioned under real-world conditions.) We are working hard to incorporate a number of changes that will:
  • Improve the process for hunters
  • Help us meet our goal of gathering as much data as possible for wildlife management
At this time, we're hoping to make it available for a number of big game hunts in the fall, but that will depend on how development goes through the summer. Finally, any changes to tagging requirements — or options — will be widely published online, via news release, social media and guidebook updates as well as targeted emails to permit holders in those areas. Hope this helps clarify what's happening!

I believe that E-tagging is going to be the thing of the future. Arizona is already doing it with big game animals and right now you need to opt into the program.

In this day and age with everyone having a cell phone with them it will be quite easy. You just fill out the information on your phone at the kill site and transmit it to the G&F. If you don't have service you just transmit it once you are in a service area.
