I heard bugles a couple of weeks ago. Not unusual but nothing like the rut kicking in. Most the bulls I saw last weekend were starting to strip their velvet. It won't be long now.

 

My experience this weekend leads me to believe it is starting, or at least will start very soon. Don't ask me why I think this, nobody here would believe me anyway.

I heard one bugle on opening morning. I believe it was a real elk and not a hunter based on where I was and the fact that it only bugled once.

 

I also heard one bugle opening morning, not certain if it was Hunter or elk. It was a ways out from where I expected to see anyone, and only a single bugle. But, it was a relatively high pressure general area, and I didn’t see any elk. I’m leaning toward a hunter.

 

I watched and listened to a decent 340ish bull still in velvet this weekend bugle multiple times Saturday morning. They don't seem to really be "getting going", but just starting to warm the vocal chords up. Happens every year where you'll start to hear more bugles that normal in the time leading up to the rut. Elk talk year round, but it definitely ramps up late August through September heading into the rut.

 

Been in Northern Nevada scouting the last few weekends. Zero rut action so far, bulls either solo or in Bachelor groups and spikes still hanging with cows and calves. one bull in velvet the rest were mostly rubbed off.

 

All I'm going to say is a few minutes after blowing on a cow call, I was humbled. Trust me when I say, they've rubbed off their velvet. At least they have where I was.

 

I was hearing some bugles Saturday morning, but that was about it. Some of the bulls I saw were still in velvet, while others were hard horned.

I got some bugles at the ole maverick, wasn't to impressed ill stick to pringles

 

Those type of bugles really do suck. I can't believe anybody eats them. Sometimes the vending machines at work get cleaned out before the guy that runs them can restock them. You know what he never runs out of? Bugles.

 

I spent the weekend on the Paunsaugunt. Saw zero elk, heard zero bugles.

Heard a handful over the weekend. None that wanted to play, one was bugling as a herd came into the water. Lead cow saved em all. We’ll be back for more combat hunting next weekend lol

 

I haven't heard a bugle or seen an elk in 2 weeks.
I had some hanging around, but they seem to have vamosed the area.
I did pass up this buck last night......
