I hunted with this guy some 7 ish years ago. as a favor to someone else who was trying to help him get started. 3 days guiding public land on the Unitas. No meals, bring your own gear, we even had to use my truck. He sent a friend that had been shown the area briefly and only gave us a day and a half of guiding, before bailing as he was a football coach. Needless to say we saw nothing and were very disappointed, it was a total joke for my brother and I. Communication was poor and when things go bad he hides or runs. Sad that he has still not cleaned up his act. What a shame. He really should not be in this business as he lacks the skills to do this right in any real way.
You know, I thought briefly about guiding. VERY briefly. IMO, I would think that is business where your expected to deliver - at least an opportunity, and to handle all the logistics of the hunt. I mean, there's a ALOT that goes into a hunt before you even get into the truck/suv to head up the mountain. Honestly, I could spend a an hour or so every day for a week in my off time getting ready for a hunt. You should have a dang good idea on what your clients will need from experience and have loaners on hand in case they don't have it. I would think you'd be expected to get them in where they need to be, set up a dang good camp, take care of dinner at the least, get them close enough to game to where they have a plausible opportunity, and have some method of pack out.

But that's just me. I don't think I have the experience necessary to guide, and I'm getting too old anyway at 50. I think this is a younger mans game. On top of everything else, I'm not giving up my spots to anyone. :ROFLMAO:

I wouldn't ever want to guide. It would take one thing I love doing more than just about anything else and suck all the joy out of it for me. Also, have you ever been around people before? They suck. The guy who is the subject of this thread is a prime example. I know I don't even have to convince you of people sucking though, because you and Taxidermist might be the only guys on this forum that are more curmudgeonly than I am. Honorable mention to BP Turkeys. 😂

Yep, you got me there. I have first rate people hatred. A couple weekends ago, I was just puttin' down a mountain road, minding my own business, kind of scouting the area, then some asshat on a motorcycle comes up behind me, blows by, and flips me off. In my 20's I'd have chased him down, full throttle. Having my whole family in the car, I let it go. I think having a hatred of people is key to finding elk. We're like kindred spirits.

Wow, I didn't realize ya'll were moonlighting as detectives!

I've opened up a complaint with DOPL and it has been assigned to an investigator. I'll update here if anything interesting happens. I'm going to write up a bad review tonight and start exploring self representation in small claims court.

No mercy. Unleash that junkyard dog! Less go, Barndon!

I checked out the reviews on his Facebook page. There were only 3 reviews and all 3 people were saying they got swindled. One was only about 25 minutes old saying they got swindled on an elk hunt which I'm assuming was yours.

That review is not me actually. I want to take a little time and write out some of the details. I have no idea who left that review. It looks like someones burner account if I had to guess.

Well… get out of the way when others come upon you. You obviously felt pretty entitled. Guys who refuse to get over and let faster traffic by are a dime a dozen. Bikers can’t stand your type either.

chase and beat the chit out of your rig all you want. You’ll never catch a bike, especially on a mountain road.

I'm sorry I talked about telling his Bishop.
My comment about talking to his Bishop got deleted and I was told I didn't even know what religion he was. I wasn't even looking for clues as to his religious beliefs, but my detective work answered that question for me anyway. I think people misunderstood my intent and thought I was taking jabs (religion is a touchy subject). But yeah, a sit down with his ecclesiastical leader to hash out his transgressions would get him right with the J man, no doubt.

Quick story... We picked up a Park City patroller one year at my resort. He was an active Mormon at the time so when he paid beer fines he pain in root beer floats. One night we're having beers and a story from the week got told. Apparently he caught a father and young daughter in a closed avalanche area and gave the man a choice. He had three choices. Lose their passes for two weeks, call the man's wife and tell her the seriousness of the situation and danger he'd put their daughter in or call the man's bishop. They chatted for a while as the man mulled over his options. The skiing was good since were in a good NW flow and had some significant avy issues at the time. Losing his pass wasn't a palatable option for him, so he really only had two options. He pulled out his phone and dialed the bishop. On speaker phone they had their chat and ultimately his wife found out anyway. Justice was served in the patrollers eyes. We all had a good laugh at the patrollers expense and fined him more rootbeer floats.

When I was a teenager my dad, brother and I went out on the gs rifle elk hunt with a couple neighbors on some public land on the Zion unit. One of these neighbors was a councilor in our ward bishopric. I had never had a bad public land experience with other hunters up to that point, but our little hunting party ended up running into a guy who was a bit of a turd. Some words were exchanged back and forth and the neighbor who was in the bishopric told the guy he was arguing with that he could "stuff it". A few moments after the altercation he was looking really somber and he told us he was really embarrassed about how he conducted himself and how he thought he was a better man than that. I think back on that memory and chuckle sometimes. He was a really good guy and that was the only time I had ever seen any kind of a temper out of him. Some people just bring it out of ya.

I had a clown bishop (actually I had several growing up) when I was 18 call me in to start prepping me for a mission (not happening, never was a thought for me). Anyway, senior in high school, I had long hair, down to my shoulders at the time. He asked me to cut it off because it was a bad example to set for others. As he finished, i leaned to the side of my chair, and stared around him at the pic of Christ on the wall behind his desk. I said “is Jesus not the example to follow?” “His reply was Jesus is always the example to follow and live up to”. I said “take a look at the length of his hair, think about your comments about mine for a week and get back to me” and I left. I hadn’t even made it home and he had already called my mom to tell me how out of line I was to question someone such as himself and his power and authority and mocked our lords appearance 🤣 this was all on the heels of him finding out I had a girlfriend after seeing us in public and I wouldn’t tell him any details about our extracurricular activities, if there were any at all, which he also called my mom to tell her about. Her reply was “yes we are aware of her and them hanging out. He has 2 parents looking after him. He doesn’t need a 3rd”.

I know this is off topic, but looking back at the interrogations we got a kids alone with these guys behind closed doors, was/is extremely inappropriate. I would never allow that to happen with my kids. Ever. Lots of these old guys are creeps and it is NONE of their business. If you’re an active member with kids and allow them to go to these bishop interviews alone, consider very carefully about you insisting to sit in with your kids. I bet half the questions they ask these kids in private would never be asked if parents were sitting there in the same room.
